We started back to school today, and I finally finished reading The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I read it to Chloe, but all the kids enjoyed listening when they weren't needing to do something else. By the time we reached the end of this book, we felt like we had just lived through a long winter ourselves! The trials the Ingalls family endured during seven months of blizzards made us so thankful for gas heat, running HOT water, sweat pants, and grocery stores! We would get under blankets to read the story because just reading about the icy cold, snowy blizzards made us shiver! Most of the time we were reading this book, our own weather stayed unseasonably warm. That is, until last week. The temperatures here in ABQ dropped considerably, and yesterday the low for the city was 4 degrees! When the all-time high for the day is 12 degrees, well, that's just too cold for me! The cold made us appreciate The Long Winter even more, however. It is a great book, and one that should not be missed!
