Chloe finished her space mural this week. We all enjoyed seeing how the planets relate to one another in size. Earth is so small in comparison to Jupiter and Saturn!
I also used the planet circles to do a lesson on the circumference of a circle. Taking a piece of yarn, we measured the diameter of the circle and sure enough, that piece of yarn goes around the circle 3 times and a little more---pi. No matter how large or small the circle, the length of the diameter will go around the circle 3.14 times. How cool is that?
Chloe and Grant are now embarking on an ocean unit.
I found this Rainbow Fish craft
that Chloe really enjoyed making for our new mural.
Grant is reading from a book called Ocean and narrating to me daily what he learns. He listens in on quite a few of the books I'm reading to Chloe too.
The Hawk That Dare Not Hunt by Day by Scott O'dell took me by surprise! We finished it just today. At first, none of us really liked the book, but we kept reading and several chapters in we were finally hooked. O'dell does a remarkable job of making an otherwise typical story of a man going against the church of England during the Reformation, a dramatic and exciting tale to read. Next up on our family read aloud list: Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan.
Allison and Abby are diligently working on the script for their new movie--Murder at the Masquerade. I have a feeling life is getting ready to get crazy around our house again soon! Ready or not, lights, camera, action!

I'm interested to see how that movie turns out. Sounds like you have some creative minds in your house :).
I love the space project! We're just starting a space unit with REAL Science Odyssey, and we might do something like this.
That looks great! Most kids really seem to love learning about planets, don't they.
