School Days 2012: November

So very quickly, time marches on and our school year is nearing the half-way point.  I want to savor every minute of Allison's junior year.  I guess her biggest accomplishment so far (besides enduring through chemistry) has been seeing the movie she wrote and directed play on the big screen.

Abby, almost half-way through her freshman year, has had a good year as well.  I know one of the highlights for Abby was watching the movie she helped to write, and then star in, play on the big screen.

Now that the movie is over, we can turn our full attention to school.  Allison, Abby, and Grant are in the midst of reading The Scarlet Pimpernel.  Chloe and I are reading the second book in the Chronicles of Narnia:  Prince Caspian.  I had my doubts about both books, but we've all loved reading about the French revolution and the major players of the time in The Scarlet Pimpernel.  My least favorite book of the Narnia series, Prince Caspian, has proven much better reading the second time around, and Chloe likes it every bit as much as she liked The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

Chloe is slowly beginning to catch on to reading.  The process has been long and arduous for her in some ways, but her attitude and spirit have been stellar.  I think that once I was able to relax and take things at her pace, she relaxed as well and made progress.  Amazing how much a mother's attitude is reflected in her children!  A book I find worth sharing that I am using with her this year is Reading Pathways.  This book is a series of reading "pyramids", or exercises, designed to help the beginning reader track with his/her eyes in the proper way.  She's really having good success with this book along with continued concentration on phonics and reading practice at her reading level.  Reading Bible verses every morning has been a huge help as well!

Psalm 119:130   "The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple."

Have a great weekend everyone!
