December and homeschooling. The two don't mix very well. School during December means doing math on the way to the dentist, hurrying through lessons before Christmas Joy rehearsals start, and cramming in history when everyone would rather be Christmas shopping. In addition to visions of cookie decorating, gift wrapping, and tree adorning distracting everyone from the important school tasks at hand, Kyle and I both have December birthdays to add to the fun and frenzy of this last month of the year.
But, we're finding ways to cope. The older kids will soon begin reading the Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol. We are also hoping to have the privilege of watching Encore Theater act out this wonderful Dickens' tale sometime this month.
Chloe has to practice her reading every day without question, but she likes to question the need for practice anyway. She discovered this week that reading to her crew of attentive fuzzy companions make reading practice a little more fun. They look excited for the next story don't they?
Christmas Joy rehearsals are actually a great incentive for Allison to keep up with her school work.
Lots of costumes to keep up with this year!
We celebrated birthday number one today--mine. Tradition holds that I have a Christmas cake for my birthday, so Chloe thought I needed these with a candle. Thank you Little Debbie!
So, even though homeschooling and December make for a crazy few weeks, doing lessons in the midst of lights and glittering decorations makes school a little less painful. And after all, Christmas break is coming!
