Science was never my favorite subject in school. I spent my time just trying to get through it and praying that the teacher would not call on me. Science hasn't been the strongest subject in our homeschool either. Gee, I wonder why? But this year is different! Someone else teaches science to my kids! It's been a great year for Grant and Chloe as you can see from the following pictures. Today's fun? Shark dissection! Did you know that more people die every year from being hit on the head with a coconut than die from a shark attack? (Chloe's favorite fact.)
Cute little mouth, don't you think?
The inside of a dogfish shark--the most common shark swimming in our oceans.
Where am I during all the festivities? I'm standing in the background plugging my nose and trying not to pass out while saying things like, "Oh! How interesting!" and "That's really neat!" and "Chloe, please don't get your hair in the shark guts."
On the literature front, we're reading Up From Slavery, an autobiography by Booker T. Washington. It should be required reading in every high school in America! Don't let your teen miss this book. Chloe and I are about to dive into the third book of the Chronicles of Narnia, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader--one of my favorites in the series!
For history, we've been enjoying a DVD series called "America: The Story of Us". Produced by the history channel, the series is well done and not to be missed!
I'll finish with a quote from Up From Slavery.
I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Booker T. Washington
