We've had a busy two weeks since the last time I posted a weekly report! In between all the school work that had to get accomplished, we had doctor visits, ballet rehearsals, and a movie premiere. To top the busy weeks off, Chloe lost her two front teeth! Our last two weeks, however busy, were filled with successes.
Chloe has been learning about weather and...
...place value. This is decimal street where the ones, tens, and hundreds live!
A little trick I learned with MathUSee---Chloe turns a sheet of notebook paper sideways, so she can keep her numbers lined up correctly!
Grant completed his second paper with IEW's Student Writing Intensive program. He's doing great with the program and likes it! This success comes from a boy who has always hated writing. :)

Another success this week came when I made a batch of laundry detergent.
No, this isn't soup, but homemade laundry soap. The money savings from making my own is tremendous, and making the soap is easy! Find out how to make your own liquid detergent here.
Allison getting ready for the "Operation Uncharted" cast party.
Chloe made a color wheel pizza. Lots of fun!
Another success this week came when Chloe read the recipe for pumpkin chip cookies and made them herself!
Chloe discovered the reason the city puts salt on the roads on icy, snowy days.
Allison's and Abby's success came when they showed their movie to friends in ABQ on the big screen. They are now working on learning all about the middle ages in preparation for their next feature film.
Allison is reading The Once and Future King. Abby and Grant are reading King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Chloe and I are reading The Minstrel in the Tower.

I co teach an IEW class for our co-op and I have mixed emotions about it. Glad to hear your son is doing well and enjoying the program. Oh I wish the homemade laundry detergent worked for me. I made the recipe and was so excited but i felt that my clothes were coming out so dingy. Can you advise me, perhaps I was doing something wrong.
Ahhh, I fondly remember making cloud posters with my older son! We used dryer lint for cumulous clouds (the gray was perfect for rain clouds). Studying weather is so much fun!
I love the idea of the pizza color wheel, too. It's beautiful!

Tiffany, I don't really know why your clothes would be coming out dingy. I followed the directions exactly in the link I posted and have had no trouble. If you read her comments section, you can find some trouble shooting, but I don't remember anyone having that complaint. Maybe you need to use more soap for it to be effective? Or maybe the water in your area is too hard? Just a couple of thoughts off hand.
I think the dingy is from minerals in your water. I've hard people with really hard water have problems with the homemade soap.
Great week and how neat that the kids saw their movie on the big screen. I love how creative your children are.
I love all the pictures you've posted. NOTE to self: I should charge the batteries in my camera. I saw a post at Rowing Down Stream where she also turned the paper sideways for math. Very nifty trick.
Catch you next weekend,
Iris
I wanted to make sure you saw the answer to your question about Pilgrim's Progress. One of my favorite blogs, Redeemed Reader, is going through Dangerous Journey and the original Pilgrim's Progress right now. They have some great ideas for studying it.
