Treasure Island

Ahoy matey and Shiver me timbers!  Because Abby is performing in Encore! Theatre's production of Treasure Island late in May, we knew we had to read the book.  Abby read it in preparation for try-outs, and I read it aloud to Chloe.  Treasure Island, although sometimes hard to read, was a delight.  Every bit of pirate lore known to man more than likely comes from this classic work by Robert Louis Stevenson.  Because of the pirate dialect, Treasure Island proved difficult to understand in places, but we decided that hearing it read out loud gave us a better understanding of what was happening in the story.  I strongly suggest this book as a read aloud, but if you are intimated by reading pirate language out loud, then I would advise finding it as a book on tape.   Treasure Island is an adventure not to be missed!  Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum!
