Another Good Book

Everyone knows about Harriet Tubman, right?  I mean, what's to know about Harriet Tubman other than she was an American black slave who helped other slaves escape to freedom?  We are all familiar with the Underground Railroad, and most of us know that Harriet Tubman used that system to escape and then lead others to freedom.  But do you really know about Harriet Tubman?  Did you know she was born before the Civil War, but lived through it, helped the Northern abolitionist cause, saw the southern slaves freed from their bondage, and worked tirelessly to help American blacks gain not only their freedom, but also their civil rights?

Harriet Tubman was a remarkable woman full of spirit and determination.  She led many slaves to freedom even though she had a head injury that would cause her to fall asleep unexpectedly for an undetermined amount of time.  At one time, anyone who betrayed her whereabouts to authorities was promised a reward of $40,000!  In spite of these obstacles, Harriet Tubman never got caught leading a slave to his or her freedom.  Harriet's faith in God was solid, and she trusted Him to help her succeed in each and every mission, and succeed she did!

Chloe and I finished reading the story of Harriet Tubman this week.  We were both fascinated by her story and highly recommend her biography.  We read Harriet Tubman:  Freedombound another Heroes of History book.  If you choose this biography, I can almost guarantee you will learn something you never knew, and you will be spellbound by the five foot tall woman know as "Moses".

Happy reading!
