Weekly Report: It's Still Warm!

Wow! I can't believe another week has flown by and the temperatures are still above normal for this time of the year. I love it! We had a good week.

Not only is the grade on this test a 98, but if you notice in the top left hand corner screams the words "Final Exam".

"Final Exam" means Abby finished Zeta, her math book on decimals and percents. Way to go Abby! Now on to PreAlgebra....

Chloe and Grant added brains to their human outlines this week. Good thinking kids! We also finished reading The Search for the Missing Bones, a Magic School House chapter book. We really enjoyed learning about the bones in our bodies with this engaging book. Did you know that your hand has 27 bones in it?

Allison and I finished reading Antigone this week, a Greek tragedy by Sophocles. We first read, Oedipus the King, and while we learned quite a bit about Greek tragedy by reading it, I have to say that we enjoyed Antigone more. Being intimated by an ancient work of literature, I decided we should read through both plays together. Reading them together worked out better than I expected. They are plays after all, and reading them aloud gave us a better sense of the drama involved. Finished with Antigone, Allison will now work on an essay comparing one of the Greek tragic heroes with a Biblical tragic hero. I can't wait to see what she comes up with! We'd like to try a Greek comedy next.

If you haven't read Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder, then you and your children are missing out on a treat! We loved this book. I had never read it before now. Back in the 70's, I read every "Little House" book I could get my hands on at least two or three times. But, I always avoided Farmer Boy because the main character is a boy. Chloe adores Wilder's books and insisted that we give Farmer Boy a try. I only required Chloe to listen, but after I finished reading it, Grant remarked, "I just love those books". And I thought he was only paying attention to his Wii game! Abby commented that since I read it out loud, it was much better. Well, you just never know!

Have a great weekend!

Congratulations to your dd on a great final exam score! We'll be reading some Greek works next year so I'm glad to hear of others reading and enjoying them.

Those kids are such smart children! They have a really smart teacher too and I don't think I'm prejudiced.
