Location is Everything: Movie Making Part IV

I've been writing posts on how my kids got started making movies mostly because I want to remember the details before their lives change so much that this movie making madness becomes a thing of the past. Someday, I'll be sitting around trying to remember the details and the memories will be foggy in my brain. I want something to look back on to remember this wild and crazy time in our lives. The past 4 years have been incredibly fun. At times I miss those years when they were babies and toddlers, and I had complete control of every aspect of their lives from what they ate, to what they watched, to who they spent time with. However, as they grow, I have had the pleasure of watching them spread their wings and try new things. I have been blessed by their talents and their creativity. Watching them become who the Lord has made them to be is an incredibly humbling, but wonderful experience.

Movie number 3 found me taking my kids to the park and watching them disappear over a hill or on a walking trail as they assured me they would be okay and not to come looking for them. They would come back to me after the shoot. "Don't look, Mom. We want you to be surprised!" Movie number 3 also got Nana and Aunt Debbie involved when the kids spent a week in Las Cruces filming all day long with their cousins. The benefit of that week was that they had more actors and actresses joining them and more locations to film in. At home in ABQ, I just hoped everyone minded their manners and didn't run Nana too crazy.

Movie number 3, edited on our brand new Macintosh computer with imovie, had more special effects than the previous movies. Movie number 3 ended up at about one hour in length. Movie number 3 became Peril and Prosperity featuring a girl, aka Allison, trying to find hidden treasure. Her quest for the family treasure took her west on the Oregon Trail where she met cowboys and Indians as well as a Japanese warlord and danger.

We watched the premiere of Peril and Prosperity in the comfort of a movie theater at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces while eating popcorn and drinking soda. Aunt Debbie took a fabulous photo of the cast and crew of the movie that still sits on my desk today. You can enjoy the trailer on YouTube. I still watch it from time to time, and I need to pull out the DVD and watch it again too. Such wonderful memories!

"More actors, better costumes, and even better locations!" This was the cry I began to hear from my children. "In order for that to happen", I said, "you must let me in on some of the planning. You will need help." Another trip was planned to Las Cruces, and more actors were recruited. Movie number 4, made in the summer of 2011, would be even better.
