Weekly Report: Spring Creativity

Crazy weather. In just a week, we went from snow....
....to singing robins!

This is the time of the year for us that we begin to finish some of the curriculum we've been working on since August. We all love the break in school work that comes in the spring, and we all have time for a little creativity.

Allison is combining her new skills in sewing with crafting.

Abby is learning to read directions for sewing a pattern.

And Grant, still remembering the winter Olympics, created an ice skating scene complete with judges and TV camera man.
Our reading this week in War, Peace, and All That Jazz by Joy Hakim took us to the end of the roaring twenties and right into the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression. I thought Hakim did an excellent job of explaining the stock market to the kids! Our next read aloud will be Bud, Not Buddy, a Newberry Award winner set during the depression.

Allison had tests this week in her hardest subjects, math and science. She made a 94 on the science test while acing the math test! Way to go Allison!!

Abby is doing great with her Latin book. She's very careful when translating sentences and does a great job. I just had to brag on her about that because Latin is hard!

Grant is improving his typing skills every day. He's slow, but accurate!

Chloe is reading Bob books and improving her reading daily. Go Chloe!

Chloe and I are reading Little House in the Big Woods. What a great book to enjoy with your elementary aged children. Grant is liking this one too!

Another wonderful week. Teaching the concept of the Great Depression are tough. Glad to hear Hakim does a good job tackling it. Hope you enjoy your time away.

It is that time of year for crazy weather. Our first day of spring may bring some frozen rain. Love the LEGO ice rink!

Everyone's weather has been so unpredictable this year! The Texas Gulf Coast included. Good job to all the kids. I like seeing pictures of their hand work. They are all so smart and talented. Mom, you are doing a great job!
