Honey Wheat Breadsticks

If you are looking for a new and delicious bread recipe to serve your Thanksgiving Day guests, look no further! These breadsticks are my family's new favorite.

Honey Wheat Breadsticks

1 1/3 cups warm water
3 T. honey
1 T. active dry yeast
2 T. oil
1 1/2 t. salt
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

In large mixing bowl dissolve honey and yeast in warm water. Let mixture stand 5 minutes. When mixture swells add the oil, salt, and 4 cups of flour. Mix together with dough hook and continue to knead until dough forms a ball and is smooth and elastic.

Place dough ball in greased bowl turning once to grease dough. Cover and let rise until doubled. Punch down the dough and divide into 16 balls. Shape each ball into an 8 inch rope. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise until doubled.

Bake breadsticks at 375 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire rack to cool.

*We like to eat ours brushed with melted butter and sprinkled with garlic salt.

Oh, man.....those look so good. I don't have a stand mixer anymore with dough hooks. Something I need to get I suppose.
