Today we successfully completed our third nine weeks grading period for the year! We finished reading Johnny Tremaine on Wednesday. Winner of the Newberry Award, we figured Johnny Tremaine would be a good read, and we were not disappointed. This book will probably go down as our favorite for the year. We will now immerse ourselves in the people and events of the American Revolution for the next nine weeks.
Abby finished her Maps, Charts, and Graphs workbook for the year, and Grant finished his Spectrum Reading workbook for the year. The wind down to the year's end has already started!
Chloe learned the letter "Y" this week, so we read one of my all time favorite picture books called Yellow and Pink. If you have never read this book to your children, read it!! Even your teen-ager will get a kick out of this one. The book is no longer in print, but most libraries still have a copy. A dear friend from Texas bought me a copy and mailed it to me shortly after we moved here to ABQ. Yellow and Pink are two wooden dolls who are lying outside contemplating where they came from while their painted bodies dry in the sun. Yellow thinks they "just happened" while Pink thinks this idea is preposterous. Yellow spends the rest of the book trying to explain to Pink how they could have "just happened" millions of years ago, but all the while Pink isn't buying it. If you think evolution is a preposterous idea and that you were created, you will love this book. Yellow and Pink was a little over Chloe's head, but I read it anyway---just for me.

Sydni,
Is the maps charts and graphs workbook by Modern curriculum press? Can you tell me a little more about it? Levels, how long you have been using, where you get it and what you use it with. Thanks Sydni!
Hi Jenn. Yes, MCP is the publisher. We've been using these since Allison was in first. I'll tell you more when I see you.
